Alaska

The largest state in the United States, Alaska has fewer than one million total residents. It is one of just two states that are not connected to the rest of America’s contiguous 48 states. Alaska’s coastline, which lies along the Arctic Ocean, Pacific Ocean and Bering Strait, is impressive. It is longer than a combination of all other coastlines that border the United States. With most of Alaska’s residents living close to the City of Anchorage, a large majority of Alaska’s square mileage is uninhabited. Students and new residents often choose to live in Alaska because of the beauty and serenity of the state’s huge glaciers. The state also offers mountains, fishing opportunities, wildlife viewing, and chances to enjoy the outdoors. Although Alaska is known for snow and cold, the weather is actually tolerable in the winter and pleasant in the summer months.
